Objective Audio - Custom Audio Projects

We specialize in Custom Audio Interfacing and Design

Types of custom projects we work on:

• Custom audio design projects

• Repackaging existing modules (e.g., the custom audio interfacing and racking Neve, SSL, API modules)

• Improving the sound quality of existing equipment

• Building custom linear power supplies

• Adding life to your vintage equipment (e.g., if a part is obsolete, perhaps we can build or find a modern replacement)

Some of Our Recent Custom Audio Projects

Neve Console Rebuild
Neve Console Rebuild
Neve Console Rebuild

Converted a vintage Neve broadcast console into a mixing console. Added our custom mix bus, panning, silent muting, and changed the configuration of the console.

Stephens 811C Tape Machine
Stephens 811C Tape Machine
Stephens 811C Tape Machine

Brought a Stephens Electronics 811C 8-track one inch tape machine back to life. Repaired all problems, rebuilt its power supply, and added sync switching.

GE Tube Mic Pres
GE Tube Mic Pres

Repaired, modified and racked a pair of GE Tube Mic Preamps for a client. Also built a custom power supply for the rack.

custom Multitrack Tape Machine Test Box
custom Multitrack Tape Machine Test Box

Here is a custom multi-track tape machine test box. It takes up to 24 tracks from a tape machine's outputs, a toggle switch that activates relays to select phase for pin-2 hot or pin-3 hot machines, a rotary switch that activates relays for selection of which track to monitor, and an output for testing with an audio analyzer and/or oscilloscope. Its custom linear power supply is external.

custom EMI Mic Pre

Here is a custom EMI microphone preamp built for musician, engineer, tech, producer, and author Brian Kehew. He had two vintage EMI 839/1 amplifier modules from the 60s and asked if we could build a 2 channel mic pre. The custom preamp uses the EMI 839/1 amplifier modules, Sowter microphone transformers, and our custom Balanced Output Line Driver Circuit (see our Products page for details). Its custom linear power supply is external.

active balanced circuit
reverb remote

On the left are two custom designed audio interface circuits.  They are both active balanced audio input circuits, which rival transformer specifications for their input common mode rejection.  The smaller custom audio interface uses IC op-amps and the larger one uses Jensen 990 discrete op-amps.

On the right is a custom audio interface we built to replace a missing controller for a vintage reverb.

Crystal microphone preamps
Crystal equalizers

This project involved taking 8 microphone preamps from a custom Crystal console and interfacing and racking them as shown.

custom neve interface and rack
custom neve interface and rack

For this project, we interfaced and mounted a Neve module as shown.  Since we couldn't find shematics for the module, we had to reverse engineer the module before being able to interface it.

Tascam DM24 Power Supply Interface

On the left is a custom 4-pole Butterworth filter we built to replace obsolete Murata filters in vintage Lexicon and Eventide effects gear (please see our Products Page).

On the right is a custom interface we built to allow the use of a standard IBM ATX power supply to replace an obsolete power supply used in a Tascam DM24 digital mixing console (please see our Products Page).
